Nottingham Forester Advanced Driving Group

WELCOME to the Forester Group of RoSPA's Advanced Drivers and Riders (RoADAR)

WHAT DO WE DO?

We give guidance on Advanced Driving, for car drivers, to the standards laid down in the Police Drivers Manual ROADCRAFT, to Associate Members in their own vehicles. Unfortunately, we are not able to give guidance on advanced motorcycle riding.

WHERE  AND WHEN

We meet every other Sunday morning from 9.30 am until lunch time, at the Greasley Sports Centre, Dovecote Road, Eastwood. Each session Associates are assigned a Tutor who will pass on the finer points of advanced, confidence building and defensive driving techniques. We have a bank of 7 or 8 tutors so you will most probably have many different tutors during your course. We try to make the  atmosphere welcoming & as relaxed as possible. We take into account possible nerves on the assessment drive & afterwards so we aim for a  non-threatening environment as we work together to improve driving standards.

WHO ARE THE TUTORS?

The Tutors are members of the Group who have passed the test at one of the two higher levels and have stayed with the Group to pass on their expertise. Following some additional training, they have all been designated as Approved Car Tutors by the Chief Examiner of RoADAR.

THE TEST

The test can be taken when the Associate feels ready & the tutors agree that they are up to standard.  There are three levels of pass - Gold, Silver and Bronze.

THE ADVANTAGES
bulletDiscounts from some Insurance Companies
bulletMembership of RoADAR and
bulletthe On the Road newspaper free
bulletmore discounts
bulletthe right to display the Advanced Drivers Badge
bulletthe satisfaction that you have worked to improve your driving and hence safety on the road, and that this has been recognised.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Any driver with a licence to drive in Great Britain may join. Members are from a broad spectrum of the community and we are advised by members of the Police force.

WHAT IS THE COST?

It is necessary to become a member of the Group for insurance purposes, so a years membership is included in your initial cost (£75) together with the cost  of  a copy of the Highway Code, a copy of the Roadcraft Manual (the Police Drivers handbook, which we also use as our "bible"), the test fee,  & as many guidance sessions as it takes for you to reach test standard. That could be as little as 40 pence an hour, so we consider it to be very good value for money.
